How to install Microsoft Windows 7
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Installing Microsoft Windows 7 RC:
First of all the why would you want to do this? There are a couple reasons.
1. Hardware and software are becoming more sophisticated so in order to stay in front of the curve you should know what technologies are available.
2. Increase productivity – people often forget that increasing production is the main reason that they invest in technology to begin with.
3. Its Free for 13 months. (I like free)….
4. Vista is an abomination. Well maybe it’s not that bad but certainly 7 is a lot faster and a lot better.
5. You can always go back to XP or Vista if it does not work for you. Very little risk.
Check if it will run on your system:
A PC for testing with these system requirements:
o 1 GHz or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
o 1 GB RAM (32-bit) / 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
o 16 GB available disk space (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit)
o DirectX 9 graphics processor with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor: Not a bad idea to run this on your current system:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1b544e90-7659-4bd9-9e51-2497c146af15
Here’s what you’ll need:
1. DVD burner
2. Blank DVD
3. ISO burning software. http://download.cnet.com/UltraISO-Premium/3000-2646_4-10177302.html
4. Partitioning software: you do not need to partition. (http://www.partition-tool.com/ ) And in fact I set off for partitions in this demonstration but you can get away with one or none
5. Microsoft Windows live account
6. Download of Windows 7 RC
7. External hard drive for backup, or something comparable.
Step one:
Get everything backed up. This is a great time to take inventory of your software and program files to make sure in the case of an emergency that you’ll be able to recover your data quickly. As part of a best practice I put all of my data files on one separate hard drive and in addition I use Carbonite Backup (http://www.carbonite.com/) along with Amazon S3 (http://aws.amazon.com/s3/). You may think this is overkill but you” Always” want to have more than one shot at your data. Do not just depend on one source for backup.
Step two:
Partition your hard drive. Free software from ESEUS http://www.partition-tool.com/ I set up for partitions one partition runs the XP operating system the second partition runs Microsoft’s seven operating system the third partition is an image of Microsoft 7 and a fourth partition is for all of my data files. You do not have to do it this way but this way allows you to flip back and forth from XP to Windows 7. And having an image of this if there is any corruption you can upload that very quickly.
Step three:
Download Microsoft seven. http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Windows-7/download.aspx You will need a “Live” account for this. http://home.live.com/ If you do not have a live account they are free.
Step four:
Create a boot disk. You will burn the ISO file to a DVD that will be bootable. http://download.cnet.com/UltraISO-Premium/3000-2646_4-10177302.html
Step five:
Pop bootable DVD into your DVD drive and install Windows 7 to one of the four partitions that you made on your hard drive. You do need to have approximately 16 GB of space available.
Step six:
Reinstall all of your programs. The general rule of thumb is if your software works on Vista then it should work on 7. I have found this to be true.
Step Seven:
Enjoy 7. And make sure to run all of the updates….
Note: does anybody know why it’s called Microsoft 7; was one of the programmers watching an old episode of Seinfeld……
From Microsoft website:
IMPORTANT: The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to rebuild your test machine using a valid version of Windows before the software expires. You’ll need to rebuild your test PC to replace the OS and reinstall all your programs and data.

Update from Brad Callen’s http://bradcallen.com/2009/02/major-ppc-web-spy-update/
Update: Before posting a comment with a question, please read the FAQ, as we’ve answered many of the questions that have been asked here, already. You can read the FAQ by clicking the link below:

Hey gang, we’ve made some major changes and improvements to PPC Web Spy, based on recommendations from you all.
Here are the things we’ve been working on over the past week, amongst the craziness.
To update your copy, simply click the “view keywords” button you would normally click to view keywords. Up will pop a screen telling you to update. Follow the onscreen instructions to update your version.
1. Completely changes the look of www.ppcwebspy.com to a much more upbeat, happy, and uplifting design. I feel this better represents the software than the dark, gloomy looking site from before.
2. Changed the entire focus of the site so that the small viral/affiliate link feature is barely mentioned… and is mentioned as only a side benefit, which is what it should be. The focus is now on what the tool actually does and the purpose of why I created the tool to begin with: To unccover your Adwords competition’s keywords.
3. Changed the GUI of the product itself to match the new site design.
4. Changed the “view keywords” button to not look so bright and “in your face”. It blends much better with Google now.
5. Added an option where free users may turn off the 2 affiliate links that appear at the top of Google. Some were complaining about the links bothering them, so naturally… they wouldn’t click them to begin with. So, we added an option that allows you to turn them off and not be bothered by them.
6. Added a FAQ page with the most frequently asked questions to help with some of the confusion: http://www.ppcwebspy.com/FAQ.php
7. Added 60,000 more keywords to our already enormous, 2 billion keyword database. The more keywords that are added, the better results you’ll get. We’ll be adding 60,000 more keywords every few weeks and the resuls will only get better and better.
8. We added the “view keywords” button the “more sponsored ads” pages on Google, like this: http://www.google.com/sponsoredlinks?q=weight+loss&hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8
… and we’re currently working on many more features and functionality to come.
Please post your comments below. I’d love to hear what you think about the new additions.

P.S. I’m updating this post real quick to answer a few of the questions left in the comments below:
1. You can re-download PPC Web Spy anytime here: http://www.ppcwebspy.com/download.php
2. To view number of referrals you have, go here and login: http://www.ppcwebspy.com/referrals.php
3. To turn off the 2 affiliate links, follow these steps:
- Click the tools menu option in Firefox.
- Click the add-ons menu option
- Click the PPC Web Spy row and click the option button
- Uncheck the “show affiliate links” checkbox
4. PPC Web Spy currently works for google.com and google.co.uk. It ‘might’ work for other locations in the future, but it will be quite awhile, as that is a major major feature addition that involves doubling the size of our expenses and involves an extensive amount of resources.
